Introduction to Computer

The importance of computers is supreme.
Computer This word computer is derived from this English verb. Compute means to find the answer to which question by calculating.
Computer It is an electronic device, which takes input, processes it and gives output to us.

Types of Computer in English:

Classification according to capacity depends on the capacity of the computer, its speed, memory and storage capacity. According to the capacity, the computer is divided into four types –

1) Supercomputer:

This is the most powerful type. It has the highest efficiency, memory and storage capacity. It is used for research work like science, space science, meteorology. These tasks require a lot of mathematical calculations.

2) Mainframe computer:
Its working capacity and speed are also very high. Thousands of users can use these computers at the same time. Many types of work can be done in these at the same time. They are used to process very large information. For example, to make a plan or railway reservation, in universities, in an insurance company.

3) Minicomputer:
The design of these computers is similar to that of mainframe computers, but their speed and working capacity are less than theirs. Their size is similar to that of a refrigerator. They are used in places like medium-sized trusts, bank branches etc.

4) Microcomputer:

a) Servers:
Sometimes a network has one main computer and it provides programs and information to other computers. Information is processed on other computers. It has more storage capacity to store a large amount of information on the server and also has more memory to process a large amount of data.

Some servers are used for specific tasks, they are called dedicated servers. Such as Application servers, Communication Server, Database Server, File Server, Printer Server and Web Server.

b) Workstation:

In some places, a large amount of memory is required to store a large amount of information on the computer. At such times workstations are used. They are used for work like design, advertisement.

c) Desktop Computers:

Computers placed on the table and used by only one user at a time are called desktop computers.

d) Laptop Computers:

These computers fit into a small briefcase and they run on batteries. They are easily used in travel.

e) Notebook Computers:

These computers are similar to laptops, but their size and capacity are less. They are used for small tasks like presentations.

f) Tablet PC:

This type has become popular now. Their size varies from 7 inches to 9 inches. You can give commands in it from the touchscreen.

g) Palmtop Computer:

Their size is the size of a human hand. The pen is used as an input device in these. It includes writing recognition, personal organizational tools and communication.

Desktop Computer Hardware in English

The hardware of a microcomputer is divided into four parts – System unit, Input/Output Devices, Secondary Storage and Communication.

System Unit:

The system unit is also known as Sibiu. With the help of this block diagram, you can understand the working of Sibiu.

Shibuya consists of three parts –
1) ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit):- Arithmetical
means Mathematical Process (+,-,x,/) and Logical means Comparison (<,>,=,<>). This ALU does two things. It is divided into three parts –

a) Register: Here temporary data is stored.

b) Adder: Here the data is processed.

c) Accumulator: The answer after processing is stored here.
